Repairing The Moral Compass of America

Published on 3 February 2026 at 18:44

It is my hope you're all doing well. I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts that have been weighing heavily on my mind. Thoughts about the direction of our nation and the shared responsibility we all carry in shaping its future.

In many ways, America's moral compass feels strained. We see it in the way public discourse has become more divisive, in how empathy is too often replaced by suspicion, and in how the pressures of daily life can overshadow our sense of community. Yet despite these challenges, I believe deeply that our moral foundation is not lost, it simply needs attention, intention, and collective efforts to repair and strengthen it.

Repairing the moral compass of America begins with simple, powerful choices-

  • choosing integrity when cutting corners would be easier,
  • choosing kindness when impatience comes so naturally,
  • choosing to listen when we feel compelled to speak,
  • choosing compassion when judgment waits at the door,
  • choosing Christ when the world scoffs in your face.

Out of all these choices, the most important one is choosing God's direction. These choices don't make headlines, but they make a difference. They ripple outward-into workplaces, our homes, our communities, strengthening the fabric of the country one moment, one person, one community and one town at a time.

America has always found its way not because of perfection, but because of people who dared to do what was right when no one else was watching. People who believed that courage, empathy, and humility still matter. People today, have to understand that rebuilding something meaningful never happens all at once, it happens through countless acts of character, repeated daily.

Repairing the moral compass of our country doesn't start in Washington, DC., in newsrooms, or on social media, it starts with us! It starts with choosing integrity even when it's inconvenient, practicing kindness even when it goes unnoticed, and engaging with one another with curiosity instead of judgment. These small actions, repeated consistently build into something powerful, called unity. By the way, while I'm at this point in my writing, our youth...they are not lost, they're left. Electronic and now AI have replaced face to face parental guidance and human interaction. They can now create their own AI boyfriend or girlfriend and even a BFF that is absolutely forever. Spoiler alert, Mom and Dad, they can replace you too with a created online Avatar that chats and gives advice when prompted. If this doesn't scare you, it should! If you still haven't been paying attention, each generation of our youth is getting angrier with each passing year and the sad part is...they don't even know why they're angry. We need to listen, learn and show true love and attention to our young people. Remember, they really didn't ask to be here!

As individuals, coworkers, neighbors, and citizens, we each have the ability to influence the culture around us. By prioritizing honesty, respect, and compassion in our interactions-both inside and outside our workplace-we contribute to a healthier more grounded society. Even the smallest positive action can have a greater ripple effect than we realize. Finally, pray for one another. You don't have to know everyone, just pray anyway. Romans 8:26 says, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
